The Reading Corner in action

ESL story about Mr. G

Think about writing or hearing these English words: dress, friend, bread, any or said.  All the words sound the same but the vowel sounds are spelled differently. The El Nido mothers and fathers taking weekly ESL classes are learning to navigate the complexities of our language. Each week practicing pronunciation and learning verb tenses are applied to real life scenarios from childcare to applying for a job but the real fun is sharing cultural tips and personal stories. It turns out a potluck meal is a universal tradition. Recently, we celebrated the success of an advanced student who passed his test and is now a certified Phlebotomy Technician. Another student is studying for her GED.
